Understanding veterinary vaccine approaches
A coursework review of veterinary vaccine technologies and the relationship between animal health, livestock production, and disease surveillance.
Where the work began.
Veterinary vaccination brings together biology, production systems, and public-health questions. Our Animal Biotechnology assignment explored how different vaccine approaches are used and why the choice of a platform matters for livestock disease control.
I worked with four classmates on the literature-based assignment. The project represents collaborative academic analysis and familiarity with the questions in veterinary vaccinology.
A shared process.
- 01
Our review compared conventional approaches with subunit, vector, and nucleic-acid vaccine concepts.
- 02
We examined the purpose of DIVA strategies: distinguishing infected animals from vaccinated animals in surveillance.
- 03
The team organized the discussion into a shared assignment submitted to Dr. Ayele Mandefro.
The work we can point to.
- A group assignment titled Status and Future Prospects of Veterinary Vaccines in Livestock Production.
- A structured discussion of vaccine platforms and their roles in animal-health systems.
This was a literature review. It did not involve developing, manufacturing, or experimentally testing a vaccine.
